Turkish parliament head calls for global cooperation against economic crisis
RIYADH (A.A) - February 26, 2012 - Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek has called for international cooperation to tackle effects from a global economic downturn.
"Global cooperation is of utmost importance. A medium-term program is needed instead of temporary, short-term solutions. Major reforms are need in many areas and specifically in the banking system," Cicek told Saturday a session on energy policies as part of the Third Consultation Meeting of the Parliament Speakers of the G20 Countries in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Cicek said international institutions such as the IMF should review their policies toward individual countries and change them to fit the necessities of today's conditions.
Cicek also reminded that developed countries were more responsible for the current economic crisis than developing countries.
After the session on energy policies, the Turkish parliament speaker met with his Malaysian counterpart Pandikar Amin Mulia.
