Yudhoyono: US$60 B Needed For Asia Facific Infrastructure Projects

Jakarta, Aug 28 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said around US$60 billion (Rp570 trillion) are needed for infrastructure development in the Asia Pacific region every year in the next decade. Development of infrastructure is needed to keep pace with growing economies in this region, Yodhoyono said when opening an Asia Pacific Ministers and Regional Governor Conference(APMRGC) and at the same time an Indonesia International Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition/IIICE) 2012 here on Tuesday. "This region is predicted to grow faster than other regions in the world," he said, adding Asia Pacific has become a growth engine for the global economy. He said the regional economy is predicted to grow 4.3 percent in 2012 and 4.7 percent in 2013 amid the global slump. Faster development of infrastructure would be needed to sustain the economic growth in this regio9n, he added. Therefore, the president said he hopes APMRGC would end with a stronger cooperation in infrastructure development among the regional countries.
