Construction of CKU railway to have positive effect in development of Kyrgyzstan’s economy – deputy transport minister

Bishkek, May 16, 2023. /Kabar/. The implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project will have an overall positive socio-economic effect in the development of the economy of Kyrgyzstan, Akunaly Dosaliev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, told.

In an interview to Silk Road newspaper Dosaliev said that the new railway corridor will become the southern branch of the Eurasia Continental Bridge and open access to the markets of Southeast, West Asia and the Middle East. This route will be able to ensure the delivery of goods from China to Kyrgyzstan, as well as to the countries of Central Asia and the Middle East, including Turkey and further to the European Union. The project will increase competitiveness in the international transit market by reducing the distance and time of cargo delivery.

“The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project is one of the important projects for our country. The road will not only provide cheaper and faster transit of cargo from China to the countries of Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe, but also to a large extent compete with the already existing railway corridors in the region,” he noted.

The deputy minister stressed that it will also create favorable conditions for the further expansion of foreign economic relations and the use of the transit and export potential of Kyrgyzstan and the appropriate infrastructure: transfer stations, housing and civil facilities, and promising electrification of the highway.

“The implementation of the project will have an overall positive socio-economic effect in the development of the economy of Kyrgyzstan and will significantly contribute to the expansion of transport services provided to the population, the development and improvement of transport infrastructure. It will also increase the country's railway transport potential,” he said.

Dosaliev also emphasized that the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project will make it possible to connect in the future the currently disparate sections of the railway in the north and south of Kyrgyzstan and form a single intrastate railway network.

“The implementation of this project will create favorable conditions for the further expansion of foreign economic relations and the use of the transit and export potential of Kyrgyzstan, and also have a significant impact on the development of the country's regions, create additional jobs, that is, it will also have a social effect,” he concluded.
