Bright Future For Digital TV In Southeast Asia - IFLIX Co-Founder
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysian content providers should embrace the digital platform as Internet television is expected to have a bright future in Southeast Asia, said co-founder and group chief executive officer of IFLIX, Mark Britt.
He said in line with the current trend where millennials have been switching off linear television, mobile is the television of the future.
It's, therefore, the pivotal time for local content providers to explore new emerging markets in digital platforms within Southeast Asia.
“The digital world of television changes the entire region. This is the future, a mass market business and it is very significant in revenue. You can expect IFLIX to push the barriers of traditional content.
“Digital content providers and media companies should find their way in this digital transformation or they will be left behind,” he told Bernama when met on the sidelines of the Wild Digital Conference 2019.
The two-day conference from Wednesday gathered some 1,000 chief executive officers, founders and investors of leading tech companies from around Southeast Asia.
Britt pointed out that the digital industry unleashes creativity and at the same time it takes away the constraint of traditional television.
“Less advertisements, longer episodes…so we need to be creative. So just give us your (local content provider) the best idea, your best story, then it will be fine, it will be a vibrant excitement. Later on, we will receive incredible support.
“The changes are there. Not only from television producers but also from movie producers From film to TV like KL Gangster. The shift is going on for all of us. It is quite a unique combination of people who are passionate about the Internet generation and entrepreneurs,” he added.
IFLIX, the region's leading entertainment service founded four years ago, has revolutionised the entertainment industry and brings the power of the Internet to customers across this region.
According to Britt, IFLIX now has 20 million viewers every single month and is expected to become the largest single company in Southeast Asia in the next three to five years.
"IFLIX doesn't need to create the wave, there is already the digital transformation wave in Southeast Asia and we are lucky to serve down that way, the shifts are going on for all of us. Can you recall when was the last time you went home at 8.30 on Tuesday night to watch your favourite show?
“I know you didn't even know on which channel your favourite show was...what IFLIX does is take the great content and puts it in your hand and you can watch it any time you want,” he said.
