Escape Theme Park To Feature World's Longest Water Slide

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia) June 24 (Bernama) -- Escape theme park in Teluk Bahang here, is set to introduce the world’s longest water slide when the park begins operation in early August. The slide measuring 1,140 metres in length whizzing down from a height of 70 metres when completed by the end of next month, will overtake the 605-metre New Jersey water slide created in 2015, currently the Guinness record holder. Escape theme park chief executive officer Sim Choo Kheng said as part of the third phase development, the water slide would be constructed to connect Adventure Play and Water Play where Gravity Play would be launched. He said once the project is completed officials from the Guinness World Records would test the equipment before it is recognised as the world”s longest. "Our plan was to build a water slide which will enable visitors to view the whole park and we did not intend to break the world record. Nevertheless I am proud of what we have achieved," he told reporters during a visit by State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, here Sunday. He said the features of the land surfaces were fully utilised and protecting the trees in the surrounding areas was the biggest challenge in the construction process. "I am overly concerned over the environment here so we tried our best to maintain the greenery by not chopping down the trees. We reckon the slide will be the main attraction when completed," he said. From the top of the hill, visitors will slide down, crossing Jalan Teluk Bahang next to the over one-kilometre hanging bridge before ending up at the water theme park swimming pool. According to Sim RM10.6 million was invested in the third phase of the park development which included the construction of a cable car line to ferry passengers to the top of the hill. He hoped Escape would be the main attraction to Penang as efforts to boost the tourism industry would give additional impetus to Teluk Bahang economic and social development. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
