CASPCOM`s 16th session kicks off in Baku

Baku, November 23 (AzerTAc). The 16th session of Coordinating Committee on Hydrometeorology and Pollution Monitoring of the Caspian Sea (CASPCOM) has today started in Azerbaijan`s capital. The session organized by the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan (MENR) brings together representatives of World Meteorological Organization (WMO), UN Environment Programme, navigation and aviation organizations, and NGOs. The event discussed marine hydrometeorological service, hydrometeorological observation network, research on development of catalogue on changes in the level and water temperature of the Caspian Sea, cooperation and future activities. Founded in 1994, the Coordinating Committee acts on “Integrated Program on Hydrometeorology and Monitoring of Environment in the Caspian Sea Region”, which aims to establish a regional system for monitoring and exchange of pertinent information on the state and pollution of the environment, and providing a framework for comprehensive studies on changes in the Caspian Sea water level, as well as on the environmental impact in the region.
