Conservation Of Coastal Forest Important For Socio-Economic - PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the conservation of coastal forest is important for socio-economic, the environment and national security. "A total of RM40.1 million has been allocated for this noble purpose," the Prime Minister said in his latest tweet Thursday. Director-general of Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department Prof Dr Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim said on Wednesday RM40.1 million (US$12.8 million) had been used for planting 6.3 million mangrove trees and other species from 2005 to 2012. During the same period, some 2,383 hectares coastal areas had been conserved in line with government efforts to protect the areas from threats, particularly climate change. - BERNAMA
