Male dugong found dead off southern Thai coast

BANGKOK, April 8 (TNA) - A two-metre-long male dugong, aged between 8-10 years old and weighting about 200 kilograms, were found dead on Friday off the southern Thai coast between Libong and Kradan Islands in Trang Province. The mammal, sighted by two local fishermen, is believed to die on Thursday, with no wounds found on its body. Prachuab Mokarat, director of Thailand's 6th regional marine and coastal resources centre, assumed three causes of the dugong death, including a fight over a female dugong during their ongoing mating season, an impact from an illegal fishing net or its accidental crash into any fishing boat. It is the third dugong having been reportedly dead in the Thai sea so far this year. (TNA)
