Minister of Environment stresses importance of Shams 1 Plant

Abu Dhabi, March 18, 2013 (WAM) - Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water has stressed that the launch of Shams1 Plant, the largest concentrated solar power plant (CSP) in operation in the world, aims to diversify sources of energy in accordance with the policy chalked out by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan He congratulated in a statement yesterday the UAE President and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces on the launch of Shams 1 Plant, which represents an important era of the renewable energy in the UAE and fruit of concerted efforts exerted by Masdar notched the UAE on the world map of renewable energy in line with the UAE vision 2021. "It is an essential contribution to transforming our national economy to green economy with reduced carbon in accordance with the UAE Strategy for Green Economy declared by the UAE Vice President in 2011," said the UAE minister. The achievement, he continued, will effectively contribute to easing the effect of the climate change through reduction of carbon. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
