UAE is a world leader in the field of renewable energy: Portuguese Energy Minister

Abu Dhabi: Jorge Moreira da Silva, Portuguese Minister of Environment, Territorial Planning and Energy, said that UAE has become a world leader in the field of renewable energy and the diversification of energy sources. In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) the Portuguese minister said that his participation at the seventh edition of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) is confirmation of the strategic partnership between the UAE and Portugal in renewable energy filed. He also stressed the importance of the role of Masdar, an emerging global hub for renewable energy and clean technologies, and IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency in holding the summit in Abu Dhabi. He explained that he discussed with senior officials, ways to develop cooperation and exchange of experiences in the fields of environment, water, renewable energy and waste recycling and water resources development. The minister commended the efforts of the organisers of the "World Future Energy Summit", EcoWASTE and the Water Summit, pointing to the important opportunities being offered to discuss the key challenges for achieving a sustainable future. He also highlighted the importance of a Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which aims to promote global cooperation to meet the growing demand for energy and natural resources. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
