EU-Central Asia Summit chaired by Sadyr Zhaparov kicks off in Cholpon-Ata

Cholpon-Ata, June 2, 2023. / Kabar /. The Second European Union - Central Asia Summit, chaired by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, has started in Cholpon-Ata town of Kyrgyzstan.

Before entering the congress hall Sadyr Zhaparov greeted each of the heads of delegations - President of the Council of Europe Charles Michel, leaders of Central Asian countries - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Tajikistan - Emomali Rahmon, Uzbekistan - Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nurmukhammet Amannepesov.

At the end of the handshake ceremony and joint photographing, the heads of delegations gathered in the meeting room for the second meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia and the President of the EU.

In his speech, president of Kyrgyzstan noted that new promising areas of cooperation and a common desire to develop a regional partnership between Central Asia and the European Union will be discussed during the meeting.

“I thank the participants for supporting the initiative to hold the second summit in Kyrgyzstan. I sincerely believe that the Cholponata meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange views on a wide range of issues, as well as strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that during the meeting, the parties plan to discuss the current state and prospects of political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two regions, and there will be an exchange of views on topical issues on the international agenda and interaction between the states of Central Asia and the European Union.

The First European Union - Central Asia Summit was held in October 2022 in Astana (Kazakhstan).
