China Hopes TPP Will Be An Open, Inclusive And Transparent Pact

By Niam Seet Wei BEIJING, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- China has expressed hope that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would be an open, inclusive and transparent agreement, said a spokesperson of China's Ministry of Commerce, Shen Danyang. He said China has kept an open attitude on the TPP and was looking forward to the result of the talks. "China has always paid close attention to the TPP talks and we have also assessed the development of the negotiations which the US is well aware of," Shen told a press conference here Friday. Shen also denied that the US did not welcome the participation of China in the TPP. He said China would like to work together with any parties in the Asia-Pacific to promote economic integration in the region. It was reported that China has been showing increased interest in the TPP negotiations for the past two years. Chairman of the Apec Study Centre at RMIT University in Melbourne, Alan Oxley, pointed out that the current round of meetings of the TPP here pointed to a broader Asia-Pacific trade pact within a decade. --BERNAMA
