End of a Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions

Astana, July 03, 2009 (Khabar) - The 3rd Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions has come to an end in Astana. Summarizing the results of the meeting, Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that spirituality should become one of the main mechanisms of the post-crisis development of the world. The President expressed confidence that this congress will play an important role in the improvement of the dialogue between civilizations, cultures and religions. “We don’t bid farewell, we say see you”. In the evening all the participators of the congress gathered in Astana amphitheatre in park of Baurzhan Momyshuly. The initiator of spiritual dialogue summed up the results of the congress here.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of RK:
- I would like to thank all participants of the 3rd Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. Ten years ago, our capital city Astana won the “City of peace” contest. For all these years, our young capital city has proved that it deserves this title and now comprises a lot of people who are participating in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The discussion has shown that all religious leaders are interested in this dialogue. During this forum, which happened in the Palace of Accord, we were able to hear the representatives of different religious communities. All the speakers have shown their concern for the destiny of our planet, the desire to find ways of reaching peace and mutual understanding between countries, nations and representatives of different religious communities. The 3rd Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions has happened, according to Hegira, in one of the sacred months Rajab. This time of God’s mercy impels people to perform good deeds. That is why all the decisions which were made here are full of divine grace and are virtuous. I hope that your words will awaken an echo in people’s hearts. The modern situation on the planet is very difficult and conflicting. Every day we can hear news of terrorist acts and its victims, wars and conflicts based on xenophobia and religious intolerance. All participants of the forum noted the important role of religion in keeping peace and accord, tolerance, mutual understanding and the strengthening of the moral basis of society. In light of the global financial crisis, this role has further intensified. That is why spirituality should become one of the main mechanisms of the post-crisis development of our world. I am convinced that the result of the forum will increase the number of people, who call on others to achieve peace and harmony. I believe that this forum will play a key, conceptual role in the promotion of the dialogue between civilizations, cultures and religions. It will bring people together and strengthen inter religious understanding. I would like to note that the opening of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue has become the key concept of both home and foreign policy of our country. We are to continue this policy at all levels of global security. Dear participants and guests of the forum, the 3rd Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions has come to an end. I would like to note that the number of its participants increased and its discussions have become more interesting. This means that the world, which is currently standing at a crossroads, is in need of such a forum. Our congress can show the way, which can bring people to harmony between themselves. I am really grateful to all the guests and participants of this forum. I hope that I will see you later at other congresses here in Astana. I wish you peace, harmony and happiness.

The 3rd congress eclipsed others in the number of participants, their variety and the level of international resonance. The leaders of religious communities are sure that this meeting helped them to make a vital move towards each other and appeals for peace and harmony should be implemented. Muslims, Jews, Orthodox, Catholics, Buddhists and Zoroastrians offered to unite their forces in the eradication of enmity between religions, cultures and civilizations. Spiritual advisers from the entire world voted for making Astana the place for such meetings.

Chang Ben Dzhu, institute of studies director, Chogechon Buddhist Organisation:
- The 3rd Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions is a great event for believers. I have visited different religious forums but this congress is second to none. I hope to participate in other forums in Astana.

Miguel Maury Buendia, Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan:
- Such forums unite the representatives of different religious communities. I believe that it is a good stage for constructive dialogue between different religions. Everything that was said at this congress should be analyzed and implemented.

Madjid Abulaziz at-Turki, advisor to Minister of vakufs and Islam of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:
- It would be good to adopt honorary Statutes of Astana. And today I suggest to run candidature of President Nursultan Nazarbaeyv for nomination “Man of world”. Your multinational and many-confessional country is the example for many states. The theme of this congress was wide and the attendees deeply discussed problems of modern world. The whole world knows and respects President Nazarbayev. I consider him to be man number one in the world. I suggest to deliver today’s adopted address to all the countries.
