Meetings of the President of Kazakhstan

Astana, December 02, 2009, Khabar – Nursultan Nazarbayev received the prime minister of Kyrgyzstan at the Ak Orda. The president discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda with Daniyar Usenov. It was noted during the meeting that in the current situation, such close partners as Astana and Bishkek should promote economic cooperation in an active fashion.

Nursultan Nazarbayev has set this task to the chairman of the Agency for the Protection of Competition Mazhit Yesenbayev. The head of state announced that motor fuel and food products are unreasonably overpriced. It wasn’t by chance that this issue was raised during the recent direct link with the president. Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the collusion of monopolists and the formation of a resellers’ network cannot be tolerated. Prices are soaring due to these practices. The Agency ought to improve the situation and secure competitive terms on the market.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- The “Metro” centre was built near Astana. It works directly with producers and therefore prices are considerably lower. This example should be followed. It’s European experience. According to customs’ data, potatoes are delivered at 24 tenge per kilogram and sold at 240 tenge, so the price is ten times higher. I understand that there are expenses. However, they cannot be this big. It is necessary to settle the issue and detect those who are lining their pockets through our people in a dishonest way and remove them from the equation.
