Significant clue found during embassy demo
TEHRAN, Dec.12 (MNA) -- The recent student demonstration in front of the British Embassy in Tehran provided a key clue about the nature of Britain’s intervention in Iran.
In the embassy, the students, who were angry about the hostile policies of the British government toward the Iranian nation, discovered a picture of Reza Khan, who took power in a coup d’état backed by Britain and the United States on February 21, 1921.
The ornamentally framed picture is clear proof that the British are still proud about their historic role in Iran and how they ruined the political life of millions of Iranians during that period. It also shows that Britain’s hostility toward the Iranian people and government will never end.
That very picture of Reza Khan can serve as the sole justification for the students’ demonstration in front of the British Embassy, leaving aside other possible reasons, especially Britain’s prejudice in dealing with Iran’s nuclear program and the unilateral sanctions it imposed on the Iranian government.
The demonstration showed that the students are still devoted to the same revolutionary principles that led to the closure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979. In other words, the idea that the move was orchestrated by at least some elements in the Iranian government, as British officials have claimed, is absolutely baseless.
The students’ demonstration provided a clear message to the United Kingdom that the intensification of London’s hostile policies toward Iran, especially its activities during and after the Iranian presidential election of 2009, will not go unnoticed. The staff of the British Embassy played a very active role in fomenting the post-election crisis in 2009 and expressed support for some dissident elements.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad finally told the students to leave the embassy, and the protesters obeyed his order. This shows that the president is still popular among students, and his popularity is due to his obedience to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The Leader’s tacit consent was enough for the protesters to leave the embassy compound. Otherwise, it would have been right for them to continue their demonstration until London issued an official apology.
