“Tehran 2121” completed

TEHRAN,Jan.5(MNA) -- “Tehran 2121”, one of Iran’s biggest animated projects, was completed after four years of efforts by a team of 250 individuals and the full support of the Farabi Cinematic Foundation. Directed by Bahram Azimi, the animated sci-fi comedy was produced by the Tehran Municipality. Azimi used a technique called rotoscoping to make “Tehran 2121”. Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame, for use in animated films. “Tehran 2121” is about the past and present of a 160-year-old man. The story of this animation takes place in the year 2121, when robots live alongside people who live for over 160 years due to progress in medical science. During the past 2 weeks, all the major actors gathered in the studio to finish the final dubbing, Azimi told on Wednesday. “‘Tehran 2121’ is one hundred percent Iranian, all the designs, costumes, dialogues and especially the theme are totally Iranian,” he said. “We made use of different techniques to enliven the characters. A team of stage actors headed by Sirus Kahurinejad performed the scenes live. Actually, the timing of the characters’ movements was formed based on the stage actors’ performances,” he added. The animation is expected to go on screen at the 30th Fajr International Film Festival running in February. The screenplay is written by Amir-Masud Alamdari and Azimi, and Mohammad Rahmanian, Habib Rezaii, Reza Rafi and Peyman Mo’adi have been collaborating as advisors. Bahram Radan, Hedyeh Tehrani, Mehran Modiri, Mahtab Nasirpur, Mohammadreza Sharifinia, and Hesam Navvab-Safavi starred as the main characters in the animation. Mehrdad Raisi directed the stars in voicing “Tehran 2121”, which was carried out by Raisi’s Association of Young Voice Actors. Azimi is mostly known for the animated driving commercials he has made for the Iranian police. Huti and Sia Saketi, the two characters in the commercials, are very popular in Iran.
