14 Tourism Businesses, Stakeholders In Malaysia Named For Asean Tourism Standard Awards

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 20 (Bernama) -- ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2022 has recognised and awarded 14 tourism businesses and stakeholders in Malaysia for ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards. Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in a statement said they were the awardees in four categories namely the ASEAN Green Hotel Award, ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award, ASEAN MICE Venue Award (Meeting Room) and ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award. The ATF 2022, held in Preah Sihanoukville, Cambodia, from Jan 16 to 22, recognises and honours outstanding ASEAN tourism businesses and destinations that comply with the ASEAN Tourism Standards. The ASEAN Tourism Standard is a standard for all ASEAN member countries, and regional tourism industry players to use as a guide in providing high-quality and excellent service delivery to tourists which aims to make ASEAN an excellent destination on a global scale. MOTAC said the Habitat Penang Hill in the Malaysian state of Pulau Pinang and Walai Penyu Conservation Park, Libaran in Sabah state were named for the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Standard 2022-2023 under the urban and rural categories respectively. Mandarin Oriental (Kuala Lumpur), The Datai Langkawi (Kedah), Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa (Pulau Pinang) and Golden Sand Resort by Shangri-La (Pulau Pinang) were listed for the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard (2022-2024). Penang City Council (Penang), Muar Municipal Council (Johor) and Langkawi Municipal Council Tourism City (Kedah) were listed for the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (2022-2024) category. Five hotels, namely Four Points by Sheraton Puchong (Selangor), Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson (Negeri Sembilan), Le Meridien Hotel Putrajaya (Putrajaya), Doubletree by Hilton Melaka (Melaka) and Shangri-la Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa (Penang) were listed for the ASEAN Mice Venue Standard (Meeting Room) (2022-2024). MOTAC said the 10 ASEAN member countries have deemed tourism service standardisation essential for improving the quality of tourism products and services and promoting responsible management among tourism businesses and stakeholders in the region. ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. -- BERNAMA
