17th Bahrain International Book Fair opened

Manama, Mar. 24 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has deputised Deputy Premier HH Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa to open the 17th Bahrain International Book Fair, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) with the participation of 350 publishing houses covering a wide range of topics, interests, and age groups. The deputy premier affirmed the constant interest of the government, led by HRH the Prime Minister, in supporting cultural and intellectual activities, given their crucial role in enlightening the public opinion and promoting the kingdom's rich civilisational identity and deep-rooted human heritage. The Bahrain International Book Fair is a key cultural event that provides an opportunity to showcase the latest publications, stressing the importance of the Book in spreading awareness and knowledge. HH Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa, accompanied by BACA President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, toured the fair's sections and was informed about the exhibited books and encyclopedia covering a wide range of knowledge and scientific fields. He expressed admiration for the Fair's outstanding organisation, which, he said, embodies Bahrain's distinguished potentials in the field of specialised exhibitions and conferences. That will also motivate publishing houses to participate in the event, he said. He highlighted the importance of holding more cultural and creativity events so as to consolidate culture as a bridge of human communication among various peoples. The deputy premier thanked BACA President and all BACA affiliates for their efforts to organise the Fair, wishing them further success. Shaikha Mai extended sincere thanks and appreciation to HRH the Prime Minister for his constant patronage of the Bahrain International Book Fair. She stressed that event's importance stems from HRH Premier's support and patronage, noting that "countries whose decision-makers are interested in the Book are undoubtedly experience their golden age." BACA President also expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the Deputy Premier Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa for inaugurating the 17th Bahrain International Book Fair, valuing highly his interest in such a cultural event. Shaikha Mai expressed BACA's pride in hosting Jordan as the Guest of Honour of this year's book fair, hailing the participation of the Jordanian Culture Minister Dr. Lana Mamkegh. The 17th Bahrain International Book Fair runs from March 24 – April 3, and features a wide range of side events, from the special awards ceremonies and book signings and launches, to lectures, film screenings, and music concerts, as well as fun kids activities.
