188 fraud cases since January

Manama, Nov.25 (BNA): Captain Mariam Buzwayed from the Anti-economic Crime Directorate of the General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security told Al Amn radio show on Thursday that the department has dealt with 188 fraud cases since the beginning of this year. She said most of the cases were through phone calls to the victims to convince them that they had won money prizes. She highlighted that the article 391 of the penal code law penalizes fraudsters of jail terms and no more than BD5000 fines, while fraud attempts are also punished with up to one year in jail and BD2000 fine. She called on the public to report fraud cases or fraud attempts by calling the hotline 922 or the department's official website.
