2,173 applicants vying for a place in NSSA programme

Manama, July 30 (BNA): The National Space Science Agency (NSSA) announced that applications for a place on the Bahrain Space Team are now closed, having reached more than 2,173 applicants since the start of the process on July 7. Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed expressed satisfaction with the high volume of applications received during the registration phase for the programme, noting that the interest and awareness expressed by young Bahrainis indicates that a bright future lies ahead for the Kingdom’s space science sector. The minister stressed that the programme will spur considerable advancement in higher education, scientific research, innovation and public services throughout Bahrain, and highlighted the crucial role of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in the development of the country’s space science and technology sector. NSSA's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohamed Ebrahim Al-Aseeri, noted that these talented and highly qualified Bahraini applicants, drawn from across the public and private sector, will now face a selection process involving a comprehensive series of interviews and tests. Dr. Al-Aseeri concluded by adding that the 10 highly skilled Bahrainis who are chosen will be responsible for implementing a variety of space-related projects upon completion of an intensive 24-months long training programme conducted both in Bahrain and abroad.
