32 Vietnam Fishermen Detained For Fishing In Malaysian Waters

PASIR PUTEH (Malaysia), April 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Tok Bali detained 32 Vietnamese fishermen for fishing illegally in Malaysian waters Sunday. Tok Bali MMEA Commander (Maritime) Zainin Abdul Majid said three boats used by the fishermen and fish worth between RM90,000 to RM150,000 were also seized during the 1pm raid. "This is the 14th and biggest case since January this year," he said in a statement here Monday. Zainin said they were spotted fishing at 110 and 112 nautical miles from Tok Bali. "All the fishermen aged between 20 and 61 have been detained for investigation," he said. He added that the MMEA from Tok Bali had detained 159 fishermen for various offences since January. (US$1=RM3.06) Tok Bali is a small fishing port in Kelantan, Malaysia, located about 48 kilometres from Kota Bharu.
