3rd Army Region prepares plan to response influx of illicit drugs

CHIANG MAI, Feb 24 (TNA) -- Commander of the 3rd Army Region called a meeting today to evaluate the operations of Northern Border Narcotics Control Management Centre in solving drug related crimes, revealing a lead that over 500 million meth pills are set to pour over the border, prompting the command to lay down strict measures to seriously eradicate drugs smuggling. The 3rd Army Region Commander Lt Gen Vichak Siribansop, in his capacity as the director of the Northern Border Narcotics Control Management Centre had followed up on the operations of the centre at a meeting held earlier today at a hotel in Chiang Mai, after a large batch of narcotics have been confiscated. The commander said the the recent arrest was quite out of the ordinary, noting that more integration is needed between all concerned agencies, including the police, military, and Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). He noted that more drugs means more people are addicted to narcotics, which could also lead to higher motive for drugs smuggling. Lt Gen Vichak said studies on past cases were put on the table to lay down stricter measures against narcotics and border smuggling, while ensuring that the situation within the country is also under control. He said as a result of hard work from all agencies, drug syndicates must now try to release out more products, which over 500 million methamphetamine pills are expected to pour over the border.
