4,000 Posts Created To Fill Up Police Vacancies

SIBU (Sarawak, Malaysia), April 23(Bernama) -- Some 4,000 new posts have been created to fill up vacancies especially in new police stations nationwide this year, said Bukit Aman Managament Division director Mortadaza Nazarene. He said this was in line with the objective of reducing the workload among existing officers and men. Speaking to the media after declaring open the RM84.3 million (US$27.49 million) new Sungai Merah police station here on Monday, he said the posts would include those for police constables. "Upon the completion of their six-month training, we will assign them to the stations nationwide. "Then with them, we will be back on track in terms of the personnel and workload," he said. Meanwhile, he said 11 of the 13 new police station projects for the state under the Ninth Malaysian Plan had been completed. "The other two, which are the district police stations for Lubok Antu and Sri Aman, are being implemented. All these cost the government RM1.1 billion (US$358 million)," he said. Mortadaza said the police would bid for fund under the mid-term review of the current 10th Malaysian Plan to build more new stations in the country to accommodate new population growth and development areas. On crime fighting and prevention, he called on community leaders and members of the public to step up their co-operation with the police. "If all are sensitive to criminal activities in their respective areas, their show of concern and commitment will act as excellent deterrent. "Those bent on committing crimes will think twice about doing so," he said. In his speech earlier, the state police commissioner, Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, said the modern Sungai Merah station on a sprawling 14.24 hectare site was to replace the one set up in 1939. -- BERNAMA
