6 Vietnamese fishing boats arrested in Thai waters

Chon Buri, May 12 (TNA) – Thai naval officers arrested six Vietnamese fishing vessels for allegedly encroaching and illegally fishing in the Thai waters on Friday. Captain Adisak Jaenglek from the Royal Thai Navy Region 1 said in a press briefing that the arrest came after a number of public complaints against water encroachment of foreign vessels. Local villagers complained that many Vietnamese vessels were found to have operated fishing illegally near the country’s coast. The boats intentionally flew Thai flags to deceive the authorities. Captain Adisak said six fishing trawlers and 20 Vietnamese crews were arrested following the search operations around 60 miles off the Juang island in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district. They have been transported to the Sattahip police station for further investigation. (TNA)
