Abuse Of New Media Affecting Younger Generation Interaction
KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Uncontrolled use and abuse of the new
media such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs could affect interaction among the
younger generation, said deputy secretary-general of the Information,
Communications and Culture Ministry, Che Azemi Haron.
He said society today was more controlled by the new media to the extent
that it caused users, especially the younger generation, to be influenced by the
writings in the new media.
"Sometimes they are swayed by the electronically-created presentations as
the truth and we have to stop the younger generation from falling into this
trap," he said to reporters after closing a Jom Generasi Y!: Stand As One
programme organised by the Special Affairs Department (JASA), here, on Sunday.
Azemi said the new media, if used correctly, could be beneficial to users
in exchanging views with others.
"As such, do not use Facebook, Twitter and others to hit out at other
individuals as it would not bring any benefit," he said.
Meanwhile, JASA director-general Fuad Hassan said more than 7,000 youths
participated in various events organised throughout the two-day programme
including skating, BMX riding, paintball, PlayStation, underground music, X
Box, Fixed Gear and photography.
