Abu Dhabi, 11th January 2015 (WAM): Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) on Saturday said that construction work at its USUS$167 million residential housing development in Kabul, Afghanistan, has been completed and that work is underway to complete the project's infrastructure and amenities. The fund says that the handover of the project, which will see 3,330 housing units built on a 54-hectare site in Kabul, will be handed over in July 2015. The housing units were designed to suit family lifestyle of Afghans. Director-General of the AFDF, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, reiterated the keen interest of the UAE government in standing by Afghanistan as a major partner in the country's social and economic sustainable development. He added that such projects represent an effective and major contribution to the development of the Afghan capital and back the Afghan government's efforts to encounter the challenges of social welfare and economic development and eventually achieve sustainable development. ADFD's involvement in Afghanistan goes back to 1977. Since then, the ADFD has offered and managed grants, loans and long-term direct investments totalling more than Dh1 billion to fund 13 projects in the country's most vital sectors of overall development. To date, the fund which was established by the Government of the emirate of Abu Dhabi in 1971, has managed more than Dh64 billion of the UAE government's foreign aid to fund 238 development projects in 71 countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395274883192.html
