Advocacy of Divisive Issues Like LGBT: Singapore Reminds Foreign Businesses To Be Careful

SINGAPORE, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Singapore on Thursday has reminded foreign businesses that while they are free to promote diversity in their companies, they should be careful about advocacy on issues in the republic that could be socially divisive including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues. “These are matters for Singaporeans to discuss and come to a consensus on how to move forward,” said Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a statement issued on its website. The statement was issued in response to media queries arising from United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's call for the business community in Singapore to support the LGBT community here as more American businesses are establishing offices in the republic. -- BERNAMA
