Agreement to provide insulin pumps to orphans signed

Manama, June 2 (BNA): Under the patronage of the Representative of HM the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and Board of Trustees Chairman of the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, RCO has signed “Al-Fares” (Knight) agreement with the Health Ministry and the Universal Medical Equipment (UME) to provide insulin pumps for orphaned children with type 1 diabetes. The agreement was signed by RCO Secretary-General, Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayed, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Waleed Al-Manaa, and UME’s General Manager, Dr. Juma Al Juffairi. Consultant in Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology at Noor Specialist Hospital, Dr Assaad Al Dafter signed the agreement of the consultant doctors who are contributing to the project. The project was named "Fares" (Knight) as it transforms a child or young person in a difficult health situation into a strong person, like a knight, who enjoys good health and performs their daily duties smoothly. Dr. Al-Sayed extended sincere thanks and appreciation to HH Shaikh Nasser for patronising the agreement signing ceremony, as well as for his interest in activating social partnership to serve the orphans and the needy in the kingdom. RCO secretary-general indicated that the project aims to alleviate the sufferings of children with Type 1 Diabetes through providing them with insulin pumps and sparing them daily injections. The pumps will also help them to improve their health and live normally with other children, he said. Dr. Al-Sayed said that the first phase of the project will target 20 children with Type 1 diabetes for one year, noting that more beneficiaries will be added based on the increase in the number of donors.
