Ambon To Organise "Leitimur Selatan" Festival

Ambon, Maluku, Jan 16 (ANTARA) - The government of Ambon will hold the "Leitimur Selatan" cultural festival in February this year, said an official. "The cultural festival is part of Ambon`s tourism development program to attract both local and foreign tourists," said Leitimur Selatan sub district`s head, Richard Luhukay, on Wednesday. He said various competitions will be held to enliven the festival. The competitions include boat racing, fishing, village cleansing and open air jumping. "Eight villages in Leitimur Selatan will participate in the competitions, and the festival is expected to be a permanent tourist attraction in Ambon," he said. "This festival is also intended to promote Leitimur Selatan sub district as one of the main tourist destinations in Ambon," he went on. According to him, the villages of Hatalai, Naku, Kilang, Hukurila, Ema, Hutumuri, Leahari and Toisapu in the Leitimur Selatan sub district have unique art and cultural attractions, and are blessed with natural beauty. He said the Hukurila beach is one of the main marine attractions with a beautiful underwater panoramic view.
