Ambulances abused to smuggle ‘ice’

PHAYAO, Sept 10 (TNA) -- Police stopped two ambulances used to transport a large number of crystal meth in Phayao province. Narcotic suppression police and local police of Phayao stopped the first ambulance registered in Bangkok after a road chase from Chiang Rai province. Its rear tires were shot and the vehicle smashed into a residence’s fence on San Chang Hin-Sri Chum Road in Moo 2 village of Dok Kham Tai sub-district in Dok Kham Tai district. The other ambulance was stopped at a checkpoint in Mae Tam sub-district of Phayao provincial seat. A large number of crystal meth or “ice” was found in both ambulances. Police said that they had followed the vehicles from Chiang Rai as informants had tipped them that smugglers were transporting the drug to the Central Plains. Three suspects were arrested from the ambulances. The suspects tried to drop parts of the illicit drugs during the road chase and police retrieved them. The suspects were charged at the Provincial Police Region 5 in Chiang Mai province. (TNA)
