Anadolu Agency director general meets with head of Turkish Red Crescent

ANKARA (A.A) - February 1, 2012 - Chairman of the Turkish Red Crescent Society Ahmet Lutfi Akar on Wednesday paid a visit to Anadolu Agency (AA) Executive Board Chairman and Director General Kemal Ozturk. Akar said during the meeting at the AA headquarters in Ankara that the Turkish Red Crescent Society had carried out major operations in Turkey's quake-hit eastern province of Van and in Somalia, thanking the Anadolu Agency for its support in making the society's efforts heard in the public opinion. Akar said the Turkish Red Crescent had provided shelter, food and water for 15 thousand people in Somalia with donations from the Turkish people.  Ozturk on his part said that the Anadolu Agency paid utmost attention to the Turkish Red Crescent's operations in Van and Somalia, adding that the agency was the first Turkish press media to arrive in Somalia. "We have produced 60 percent of the overall news items appeared on the Turkish press and we have seen the difference the Turkish Red Crescent had made in both Somalia and in Van," Ozturk said.   Ozturk also said the Anadolu Agency opened a photograph exhibition in Strasbourg on the human tragedy in Somalia as well as the efforts exerted by the Turkish Red Crescent and other Turkish aid organization to extend a helping hand.
