ANNHRI Stresses Cruciality of Supporting Palestinian People Against Racial Oppression

Cairo, December 24 (QNA) - HE Secretary General of the Doha-based Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali stressed the need to advocate for human rights issues in general, and the cause of the Palestinian Arab people in particular, and work to support them in order to lift the injustice and racial persecution practiced on them by the Israeli occupation, as well as to oppose colonial ideas and racial discrimination, through which immorality rules the world, enslaving peoples by new and innovative methods and tools.
This came in a speech he delivered during the "Mohamed Fayek III" foundational training course on the human rights system, and the establishment of national human rights institutions and their roles, organized by ANNHRI in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, lasting for 3 days. The training course introduced new members in national institutions in the international human rights system, to the basic principles and concepts of human rights, their origins and developments, as well as to international human rights law, in addition to contractual and non-contractual human rights mechanisms, and other related topics.
Al Jamali stressed ANNHRI's message of protecting human dignity, which was the message and concern of Mohamed Fayek, whose name the course bears, during his human rights career.
In his speech, His Excellency said this supreme message is the reason behind all of the network’s efforts to combat violations, and promote and protect rights, noting that no form of enslavement can be accepted, and that ANNHRI will spare no effort in defending human dignity and enhancing the self-worth and pride of individuals.
His Excellency said that it was imperative to organize and frame the Arab Network's adoption of the cause of the Palestinian people, praising the Arab populations' position on the issue of their brethren in Palestine, their stance against the Israeli occupation, in addition to the global popular support for the Palestinian cause, evident during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. HE Al Jamali stressed that international popular support for the Palestinian cause indicates that the world is on the right path, and that people who do not despair of claiming what is theirs, will find someone to support them.
For his part, HE Vice-President of the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Ambassador Mahmoud Karem said that the decision to organize an annual session bearing the name of HE Minister Mohamed Fayek is an appreciation for his efforts in the service of human rights. His Excellency added that the international community relies on national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and civil society organizations to urge states to promote and protect human rights in their countries, through their interaction and cooperation with international human rights mechanisms, and encourage them to implement and follow the recommendations of contractual and non-contractual mechanisms.
His Excellency called for the need to increase training courses for cadres working in various agencies concerned with protecting and promoting the culture of human rights, in accordance with the latest studies and practices, and based on international conventions and mechanisms.
For his part, HE the Secretary General of Egyptian NCHR Ambassador Fahmy Fayed affirmed that this course serves as a starting point for newly appointed staff working in Arab national institutions and civil society organizations, to advance the process of spreading the culture of human rights, and protecting and respecting human dignity in Arab countries and the world as a whole, pointing out that working to support institutional and technical capabilities, and building a culture that supports human rights comes at the top of the priorities of the work of the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights.
His Excellency indicated that the National Council has developed an action plan to implement a number of training programs and workshops to raise the competence of its members, and to make use of best practices and successful experiences in the concerned authorities, as well as national and international institutions, in cooperation with the Arab and African networks and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
In the same context, Mohamed Fayek said that ANNHRI has been able to perform its work efficiently without being affected by the fluctuation of political relations between some Arab countries at given moments, stemming from the understanding that political differences quickly disappear, with Arabs return to each other. Fayek also called for ANNHRI's experience to be set as a model for Arab relations, which must continue without being interrupted by fluctuations in political relations.
Fayek pointed out that ANNHRI is a national organization for the benefit of all Arab states, with every national institution seeking to improve the situation of human rights in its country, adding that the network does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, instead, as independent institutions, support one another through an exchange of knowledge, experience, and training, as well as defending the rights of their peoples.
He noted the State of Qatar's success in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the entire world's consensus on the excellence of this edition in terms of preparation and organization, in addition to the remarkable qualification of the Moroccan squad to the tournament's semi-final, is an important achievement for human rights, because it eliminates the West's inferior view of Arab countries. Mohamed Fayek extended his congratulations to the State of Qatar and to the Kingdom of Morocco for this success, which made the Arab nation proud. (QNA)
