Aomsin turtle in better condition

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) -- The condition of a turtle called, 'Aomsin', literally translated into 'piggy bank', is improving, though the amphibian is still floating through abnormally, as there are some coins left in his system. Nantarika Chansue, Director of Marine Animals Centre of the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, said the condition of the turtle, which was examined yesterday, was improving, noting that he has also received a 30-minute physical therapy session yesterday to help relax. Vets found that both his fore and hind legs remained to be sturdy and strong, though he is still having problem floating or gliding through the water, as coins, weighing less than 1 kilogramme, still remained in his stomach. The veterinarians could not determined how many coins are left in the turtle's tummy and informed that as the past surgery has taken as much as seven hours, all the vets were worried that the turtle might be in danger from laying on his back for a long, so they had decided to stop the operation where they had taken out as much of the coins as they could. They further believed that the turtle would be able to excrete the rest of the rest of the coins by himself, though what the vets are worried about now is the high level of heavy metals in his blood as they coins had been sitting in his stomach for a long time. His wound is healing really well, the vets added, noting that his bandages are changed daily. (TNA)
