Appeals Court upholds society dissolution ruling

Manama, Oct. 26 (BNA): The High Appeal Court today upheld an appealed court ruling to dissolve the National Democratic Action Society (Waad) on proven charges of gross violations committed by the society to undermine the social fabric and homeland’s stability and security. The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments said the upheld court ruling that dissolves the society, liquidates its assets and orders them deposited into the State’s Treasury. The society labelled as "martyrs of the homeland" the convicted terrorists who received death sentences after targeting the police forces with an explosive device that killed three on-duty policemen. The society posted such description on its official website in breach of Article 6 of the Political Societies Law. The society also voiced its support with the dissolved Al Wefaq society which had also breached the Kingdom’s constitution and swerved in its activities to the extent of instigation of violence, demonstrations, sit-ins and sectarian strife in breach of Paragraph 7 of Article 4 of the same law. The Political Societies Law bans the formation of any connections or cooperation with any political party to break the law and the Constitution or to oust the Constitutional regime. The society has not denied its having committed all these gross violations in breach of the Political Societies Law during times of unrest and terrorist incidents in the country. The society actually does not recognize the kingdoms’ constitution nor the state’s institutions. The society cannot claim to exercise its freedom of expression as ensured by the Constitution and at the same time not recognize this Constitution.
