Army condemns fatal shooting of pregnant woman in Pattani

PATTANI, Nov 27 (TNA) - The recent killing of a pregnant woman in Thailand’s southern province of Pattani was an inhuman act and a breach of religious beliefs, a military officer said. On Nov 26, unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire on two villagers near a local market in Pattani’s Panare district, Pattani. The eight-month pregnant woman was killed, and the other victim was injured in the shooting attack. Col Yutthanam Phetmuang, deputy spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command, said the military strongly condemned the fatal shooting, saying killing a woman, particularly a pregnant one, who could not fight back, was just a barbaric act. The deputy spokesman said Lt Gen Piyawat Nakwanich the 4th Army Region commander, expressed sympathy towards the families of the two victims and ordered officials to provide them with remedial measures. The commander also ordered all relevant units to gather forensic evidence and examine the footage of closed-circuit television cameras to pursue the culprits. (TNA)
