Asian Broadcasting Union Holds Meeting In Maldives

MALE (Maldives), May 14 (Bernama) -- The Asian Broadcasting Union (ABU) commenced its 93rd meeting here on Monday. The two-day event will touch on various activities involving ABU members in the Asia-Pacific region. This includes topics such as the Robocon Project, CARE, Digista Teens, ABU TV Music Festival and the Asia-Pacific TV Programme market. The meeting was organized in collaboration with the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) and was chaired by ABU president, Dr In-Kyu-Kim from South Korea. Also present at the event were ABU vice-president Ibrahim Yahaya (Malaysia), Naoji Oni (NHK, Japan) and ABU Secretary General, Dr Javad Mottaghi. Another vice-president, Mr. Ghulam Mortaza Solangi from the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, was not present. All of the 12 ABU council members except for Mongolia, were present. They were the Bhutan Broadcasting System, Radio Televisyen Brunei, HUM Network Limited (Pakistan), RTPRC (China), RTHK (Hong Kong), IRIB (Iran), NHK (Japan), Thailand Pool Television, TDM (Macau), Turkish Radio Television, Radio-Television Malaysia (RTM) and Korea Broadcasting System. RTM was represented by its Broadcasting Director, Norhayati Ismail, and International Unit Chief, Mazura Mansor. The council members from Mongolia were unable to attend as heavy snowfall at the country's airport delayed their flight here by 24 hours. -- BERNAMA
