Attorney General Nabs The 100Th Law Fugitive Since 2011

Jakarta, Sept 20 (Antara) - The attorney general office has succeeded in nabbing 100 law fugitives since the operation of its "Monitoring Center" with its tapping device in July 2011. The 100th fugitive Johannes Simanulang, former head of the public relations division of the Central Tapanuli regency, was arrested on Friday, Setia Arimuladi, the chief spokesman of the Attorney General office said. Johannes Simanulang, who was arrested at Jakarta`s Soekarno-Hatta airport is charged with involvement in the embezzlement of Rp1.8 billion of state fund in 2006. "He is included in the list of law fugitives of the Sibolga prosecution office," Setia said. In the last six months of 2011, eight law fugitives were arrested and in the whole of 2012, the number rose to 50 fugitives and so far this year 32 more were arrested. The success shows that the Monitoring Center is effective in helping the arrest of law fugitives, Setia said.
