Authorities intercept illegal migrants at Northeastern Thai border
BANGKOK, November 4 (TNA) - Nearly a hundred Cambodian Muslims were briefly detained Sunday in Thailand’s northeastern Sa Kaeo province.
Investigators said the Cambodians had come from Kampong Cham province, bordering Vietnam, and had planned to travel to Thailand’s restive southern provinces Pattani and Narathiwat for work. Some even said they would travel on to Malaysia to find jobs.
Also on Sunday, Thai security forces at a border checkpoint in Tak province found six machine guns, more than 10,000 cartridges of ammunition, and a Karen ethnic woman, hidden inside a truck. Authorities said they believed the illicit weaponry was to be sent to Myanmar ethnic groups. (TNA)
