"Bahrain and the United Nations over Years" book launched

York, Sept. 25 (BNA): A book entitled "Bahrain and the United Nations over Years" was launched at the UN headquarters here during a ceremony held at the Dag Hammarskj?ld Library, which is the main depository for United Nations documents and publications, maintains a selected collection of materials of the specialized agencies and UN-affiliated bodies and collects books, periodicals and other materials related to the UN programmes of activities.
The book was launched marking the Information and Communication Technology in Sustainable Development Award granted to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and as part of the celebrations of the UN’s 70th Anniversary.
Shaikh Hussam bin Isa Al Khalifa presented a copy of the book to the Director of the UN Outreach Division and Department of Public Information Maher Nasser, in the presence of the Bahrain's Permanent Representative to UN Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, CEO of the e-Government Authority Mohammed Al-Qaed, Assistant Undersecretary for Press and Media Affairs at HRH the Prime Minister’s Court Khalid Al-Zayani, the Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry’s Musa’ab Abdulla and a number of senior Dag Hammarskj?ld Library’s officials.
Following its launch, the book will be available in the Dag Hammarskj?ld Library’s website, which will provide an opportunity to researchers and countries’ representatives to be informed about Bahrain’s civilisational and development achievements since its access to the UN.
Mohammed Al-Qaed also presented the library with a DVD documenting areas of cooperation between the UN and Bahrain in the field of e-government, including conferences, workshops, experts’ meetings and studies, marking the ITU Award conferred on HRH Premier.
Maher Nasser thanked the kingdom’s delegation for printed and electronic copies of the book, valuing highly Bahrain’s efforts in supporting sustainable development and documenting all UN-related events.
The "Bahrain and the United Nations over the Years" includes many chapters documenting the kingdom’s joining of the UN and its participation in the 26th session of the General Assembly in 1971, the UN and international awards granted to HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman, Bahrain’s strides in the fields of health, education, housing and women.
It also sheds light on Bahrain’s democratic process, respect of human rights, development efforts, and open economy, as well as the UN events in which it participated.
The book highlights Bahrain’s major strides in the field of e-government, being among the leading countries in this regard, and its success in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
