Bahrain attends Global Coalition against Daesh meeting

Kuwait, Feb. 13 (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain will always remain committed to exerting all efforts within the Global Coalition against Daesh, especially after defeating Daesh in both Syria and Iraq. This is considered a stage full of challenges that necessitate the continuation of all regional and international efforts to prevent the return of terrorist organisations and eliminate the causes of extremism, especially sectarian and ethnic discrimination, poverty, unemployment and displacement, he said. This came during the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh, held here today. The minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to Kuwait for hosting this conference, which reflects the active role of the State of Kuwait in combating terrorism in all its forms. He also thanked the United States of America for its active and continuous efforts in confronting all terrorist organisations and its keenness to hold this conference at this stage in order to develop new visions and strategies in light of the changes and developments in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq. Shaikh Khalid congratulated Iraq on the great victory achieved by liberating all Iraqi lands from Daesh. He also affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's firm stance against violence, extremism and terrorism and support to Iraq in its actions to eliminate all terrorist organizations, establish security and peace throughout Iraq and preserve its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity. He added that the elimination of the terrorist organisation does not mean the elimination of terrorism as a whole, as Daesh remains one of the most violent, unjust and brutal terrorist organisations, however, there are other terrorist threats present that also come from other groups no less dangerous, such as Hezbollah and many others. The minister affirmed that this requires the international community to work on combatting and eliminating all terrorist groups, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain is always ready to cooperate and eliminate extremism and violence. He also pointed out that there is an urgent need to exert more efforts to reach a political solution in Syria, based on the statement of the Geneva 1 Conference, Security Council resolutions 2254 and 2268, and the discussions of Astana, in order to preserve Syria and its unity and to ensure the security and safety of all members of the brotherly Syrian people, to eliminate the existence of terrorist organizations, end the Iranian interference in its affairs, and ensure security and safety for all the brotherly Syrian people.
