Bahrain elected WCO deputy chairman

Manama, Feb. 4 (BNA): The General Directors of Customs in the Middle and Near East and North Africa Region countries have voted their confidence in Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa the President of Bahrain Customs by electing him as Deputy Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and regional representative for the upcoming 2018-2020 session in appreciation of his active role of representing the region’s countries in the Organisation.
Shaikh Ahmed was elected by the General Directors of Customs during their 47th meeting which he chaired in Cairo recently in the presence of the WCO Secretary-General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya and the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Sector in the Arab League, Dr. Kamal Hassan Ali.
During their meeting, the Directors of Customs reviewed key recommendations and the outcomes of the 87th session of the World Customs Organisation committee on public policies convened in Luxor, Egypt in December, including accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO)’s current Trade Facilitation Agreement and the essential mustering of efforts among the region’s countries regarding the exchange of information and expertise gained from their experiences in the implementation of the agreement clauses.
