Bahrain marks International Day for Preservation of Ozone layer

Manama, Sep. 16 (BNA): Bahrain joined the world today in celebrating the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone layer. The event, observed on September 16, coincides this year with the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and is held under the theme “We Are All Ozone Heroes”.
Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Dainah extended thanks and gratitude to Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and SCE President Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa and SCE Deputy President Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa for their directives and follow-up on the implementation of environmental projects which contribute to protecting the Ozone Layer. He stressed Bahrain’s keenness to enforce Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and its Montreal Protocol by taking the necessary procedures to prevent depletion of the Ozone layer. These efforts, he added, have earned Bahrain a lot of prizes.
The SCE Chief Executive pointed out the efforts made by the council in cooperation with the relevant public institutions and the non-government organisations (NGOs) to gradually lower depleting gases of Ozone layer (HCFC) after prohibiting all types of CFC gases since 2010.
