Bahrain to participate in Arab Women’s Sports Tournament

Manama, Jan. 29 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) boardmember and chairwoman of the Women’s Sport Committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa will head to the UAE on Tuesday to head the Bahrain delegation to the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament (AWST) 2018. The tournament, scheduled to run from February 2 to 13 in Sharjah, will see Bahrain clubs compete in eight sports, namely Basketball (Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry team), volleyball (Muharraq Club), table tennis (Bahrain Club), shooting (Bahrain Club), fencing (Al Hala Club), athletics (Busaiteen), karate (Bahrain Karate Academy) and archery (Bahrain Club). Shaikha Hayat will also be joined by deputy chef de mission and general coordinator Mohammed Al Zayed.The remaining of the delegation will be travelling on Wednesday and Thursday, just in time for the 12-day tournament. The fourth edition of AWST is under the auspices of the Her Highness SheikhaJawaherbint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sport Foundation. It will see a wide participation of sport clubs from across the Arab world. This year’s event will feature karate alongside the event’s traditional eight sports – basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting, athletics, and show jumping.
