Bahrain to participate in high-level forum on sustainable development

Manama, July 15 (BNA): Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawa tomorrow will chair Bahrain’s high-level delegation at the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to be held on July 16-18 in New York. The Bahraini delegation will present Bahrain’s first voluntary report to implement the goals of sustainable development 2030, which will focus on reviewing Bahrain’s achievements in the field of sustainable development and its efforts to integrate the SDGs into the Government Action Programme. The delegation will also stage three workshops to shed light upon Bahrain’s achievements in the field of sustainable developments to benefit the international community, including providing adequate housing for citizens, labour market reform policies and Tamkeen’s support for national labour. Bahrain’s participation in the global forum reflects the royal keenness to promote the international efforts in the field of sustainable development. The Bahraini royal leadership attaches great significance to the sustainable development, it is clearly mirrored in its resolve to integrate it into the Government Action Programme to boost the government’s efforts to push on with the growth and development process witnessed by Bahrain. Bahrain has launched a series of landmark initiatives in support of the strenuous efforts being undertaken by the United Nations to promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the world. These included the King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award which reflects Bahrain’s keenness to promoting youth in the world and achieving the sustainable development goals which were set by the United Nations in its 2030 Agenda. The list of landmark initiatives also includes the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the use of information and communication technologies in education, which rewards projects and activities of individuals, institutions or organizations for excellent models, best practice and creative use of information and communication technologies to enhance learning, teaching and overall education performance. Bahrain has also been presented with high-profile prizes in recognition of its dedicated efforts and landmark initiatives. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa was conferred in 2006 the Scroll of Honour Award in Urban Development and Housing by the UN-Habitat Programme, the UNESCO-Avicenna Gold Medal for efforts to support culture, human heritage and UNESCO activities and Millennium Development Goals Recognition Award in 2010, in addition to the Information and Communication Technology in Sustainable Development (ITU) Award in 2015. His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister has also incessantly stressed the importance of launching initiative that elicit innovation and creativity and optimize resources to develop knowledge-based economy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
