Bahrain participates in international conference

Brussels, Apr. 26 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the Second Brussels Conference "Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region" which was held in Brussels, Belgium on Wednesday April 25, 2018. At the conference, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kingdom of Belgium and Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, Dr. Bahia Jawad Al-Jishi, who is also the Kingdom’s Representative to the EU and NATO, delivered a speech in which she affirmed that Bahrain stand with the Syrian people and offers financial and in-kind aid to the Syrian refugees living in neighboring countries, especially in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Ambassador highlighted the prominent role played by the Royal Charity Organization in supporting the education sector in Syria and neighboring countries noting that Bahrain has provided US$ 20m for various projects, including the establishment of the first scientific complex which comprises four schools. In the same context, she also mentioned the construction of the Kingdom of Bahrain School in Irbid, two child libraries in cooperation with UNICEF, a psychological counseling center in the Zaatari camp and provided prefabricated housing units in Al-Azraq camp and built the necessary infrastructure. Ambassador Al Jishi said the Kingdom of Bahrain supports all the efforts aiming to achieve a political solution to the Syrian crisis that should be comprehensive, in line with Geneva 1 statement and on the basis of UNSC resolution 2254 which all aim to safeguard Syria’s independence and territorial integrity, spare it further bloodshed and ensure access of humanitarian aid to all its territories.
