Bahrain participates in UN debate on international Peace

New York, June 26 (BNA): Bahrain has affirmed its firm stance towards the brotherly Palestinian people and their leadership, which are at the top of the Kingdom's priorities. The Kingdom has also affirmed the need to reach a just and comprehensive peace, leading to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab peace initiative and the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy. Bahrain has also stressed that final status issues will be resolved only through negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, and not through unilateral decisions that violate international resolutions and obstruct the settlement of the issue and efforts to establish peace. The Bahraini stances were affirmed during the participation of its Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, in the Security Council Open Debate on the Maintenance of International Peace and Security, called for by the Russian Federation to review the situation in the Middle East and North Africa. Alrowaiei began his speech with quotes from the speech of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at the 29th summit of the Arab League Council, "the international community is required today to play a bigger role to impose and implement its decisions and revive a positive atmosphere which provides more opportunities for the success of the path of political settlements of Arab and regional issues and crises, to stop external interventions, provide the necessary protection for affected peoples, and to reach practical solutions to restore these countries their ability to maintain their sovereignty, security and independence”. The Permanent Representative noted the importance of full commitment to the brotherly unity of Yemen, respect for its sovereignty and independence, and refusal to interfere in its internal affairs. He affirmed the importance of the international community's support for the political solution and the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen, noting in this regard Bahrain’s commitment to participate with the Arab Coalition forces to support the legitimacy in Yemen,. The military operations to liberate Hodeidah are necessary to stop the smuggling of weapons to militias and terrorists, including missiles that threaten the security and safety of Saudi Arabia, he added. In his statement, the Permanent Representative referred to the interference of some countries, particularly Iran, in the internal affairs of other countries to destabilize their peace and support of terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and to cooperate with them in flagrant violation of international law among the main causes of the crises in the Middle East and North Africa. Alrowaiei said that the maintenance of international peace and security is a collective responsibility and the Kingdom's continuous efforts to affirm its firm commitment to the principles on which this responsibility is based, including respect for the sovereignty of states, the promotion of tolerance-based partnerships and a culture of peace that will bring the region back to the path of security and stability.
