Bahrain salutes Palestinian flag hoisting

York, Sep.30 (BNA): Bahrain saluted the hoisting of the Palestinian flag for the first time on the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York. Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa hailed the historic event as he attended the hoisting of the Palestinian flag on the UN headquarter, in the presence of heads of states who are taking part in the 70th UN General Assembly (UNGA) session. He conveyed congratulations from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The Foreign Minister stated that the occasion represents a watershed moment in the Palestinians’ struggle march and it stands as an evidence of the legitimacy of Palestinian rights and international recognition of them. He stressed that raising the Palestinian flag at the United Nations Headquarters is a quantum leap injecting momentum in the Palestinian cause, and it will inevitably lead the international community to take necessary measures to return the Palestinians rights, deterrent measures against the policies and illegal practices of Israel, and eventually recognize the independent State of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Shaikh Khalid reiterated Bahrain's support to all efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just settlement to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the Arab Peace initiative.
