Bahrain signs Arab Court statute

Cairo, Mar. 7 (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, signed the minutes of the Statute of the Arab Court for Human Rights along with Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 149th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council at the Ministerial Level, being held in Cairo, Egypt. The said that the establishment of an Arab court for human rights stemmed from the initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the proposal submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Arab League, a step whish was endorsed by the Arab League summit. Shaikh Khalid said that the initiative reflects the keenness of His Majesty the King to promote respect for rights and liberties and also highlights the importance placed by the Kingdom of Bahrain to the protection of human rights. The establishment of the Arab Court for Human Rights stems from the keenness of the States parties to adhere to their human rights obligations.
