Bahrain welcomes US designation of SDGT

Manama, Aug. 14 (BNA): Bahrain has welcomed the US Department of State (US-DOS)’s designation of Qassim Abdulla Ali Ahmed aka Qassim Al-Muamen - a leader of Iran-based terrorist Al-Ashtar Brigades - as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sincere appreciation of this important step by the United States, which is a reflection of the United States' great concern over the security and stability of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a strategic ally, and it sees this step as part of the ongoing US efforts to confront terrorism and combat its financing for the sake of International peace and security," said the ministry in its statement issued today. "Whilst the ministry stresses Bahrain’s solidarity with the United States in its fight against terrorism wherever it is, it emphasises the need for the international community to cooperate with the United States' efforts and initiatives in confronting the crises of terrorism facing the world. The ministry called for joint action and cooperation at all levels to ensure the eradication of all forms of terrorism and to deter all those who finance or support terrorism.
