Bahrain-WHO cooperation discussed

Cairo, June 12 (BNA): Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) Lt-Gen Doctor Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, in the presence of Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh, today chaired the high-level joint coordination meeting with the World Health Organisation (WHO) regional office in Cairo. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the health delegation's official visit to Egypt. SCH Chairman said that the meeting highlighted Bahrain's keen interest on boosting cooperation with WHO to achieve sustainable development in health sector. He added that productive talks held with the WHO's regional delegation led by the Middle East's Regional Director Aladdin Al Alwan. The meeting discussed ways to develop national health strategies and systems, as well as the implementation of the sustainable development goals in the health sector. Enhancing cooperation to control the non-communicable diseases was also reviewed, and in areas of medical systems, vaccines, medicines and medical equipment. The two sides also reviewed the implementation of the national health insurance system with the participation of the World Bank. Health Minister said that the meeting was a good opportunity to reinforce cooperation and pinpointing the development goals that conform with health improvement strategy 2015-2018. Al Alwan welcomed Bahrain's interest in boosting cooperation, praising the significant achievements made in the health care and development areas in Bahrain.
